Since its creation in 1984 and during the following 15 years, CECs financed its operations with the contributions of the following main sources:
During the first years, the New York Tinker Foundation offered its trust and financial support to the first independent research centre in our country, enabling the consolidation of a top level team of researchers and the implementation of the Centre’s first installations in Santiago.
In 2002, CECs received an important grant from the Andes Foundation. As a result, the Centre was able to undertake large scale and highly relevant projects, such as the establishment of the first state-of-the-art Functional Genomics Unit in Latin America, and large scale expeditions to Antarctica, among others.
Millennium Scientific Initiative
For a period of 10 years, this unit belonging to MIDEPLAN and devoted to promoting the development of groundbreaking scientific and technological research in Chile, provided CECs with institutional financing, enabling the stable development of its scientific activities, the relocation of the Centre in its present installations in Valdivia, and the launching of a Glaciology and Climate Change research unit.
In addition, during this period, CECs was able to leverage resources from public and private, domestic and international sources, totalling sums equivalent to those provided by the above mentioned primary sources.
