(France, 1819-1868)

Jean Bernard Léon Foucault was born in Paris in 1819. He received his schooling primarily at home. Subsequently, he studied Medicine, but abandoned that field because of his fear of blood and because he could not withstand the suffering of patients, although he was microscopy assistant for three years. He devoted the rest of his life to Physics. He died in Paris on February 11, 1868, and was buried in the Montmartre cemetery.
